At Rethink Food, our mission is to create a more sustainable and equitable food system — one where everyone has access to healthy and affordable food. Our programs — Rethink Certified, Rethink Cafe, and the Rethink Commissary Kitchen — are designed to address food insecurity, use underutilized food, and make sure everyone can get access to nutritious meals.
Through Rethink Certified, we partner with restaurants and food establishments to utilize their excess food to prepare meals for communities facing food insecurity. In exchange, partners receive resources from Rethink to integrate community support into their daily operations.
Since its launch in April 2020, Rethink has partnered with over 100 food establishments in New York City, Chicago, San Francisco, Nashville, Washington D.C. and Miami.
To scale the distribution of meals, Rethink Food has developed Xylem: a web-based technology platform that enables both the Rethink Certified restaurant partners, and the CBOs for whom they provide meals, to communicate their needs directly with one another in real-time, streamlining operations to better serve and nourish their local communities.
